The effects climate change has on coffee
As climate changes around the world it has a direct effect on Latin American coffee producers. Climate Change causes unpredictable raining schedules throughout Latin American countries which impacts coffee due to the coffee leaves rusting. As the coffee leaves rust they develop a disease called la roya. The coffee contaminated with la roya cannot be sold to cosumers. |
SUSTainable solutions
Sustainable Solutions to eliminate different diseases such as la roya, include having solar driers to dry the coffee beans after it rains so that they will not rust. Producers that partner with Fairtrade Organizations are also being taught different sustainable solutions such as how to correctly manage soil and land, along with the importance of using organic fertilizers to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
